Unicaja has held the closing event for the first edition of ‘Generación Unicaja’, the programme launched by the organisation to foster internal talent and prepare future leaders through specialised training, mentoring and the development of strategic projects linked to the bank’s real-world challenges.
During the event, held last Monday, 15 June, participants presented the projects they had been working on throughout the programme, which are aligned with the main priorities of the 2025–2027 Strategic Plan and designed to have a direct impact on the business. The initiatives cover areas such as the development of digital solutions, improving customer engagement and acquisition, strengthening internal professional development, and optimising processes through the responsible use of technologies such as artificial intelligence, always in accordance with criteria of control and feasibility.
The programme involved around thirty professionals from different areas of Unicaja, drawn from both Central Services and the commercial network, who do not currently hold managerial positions. All were selected for their potential to take on new responsibilities and contribute to the organisation’s future development.
‘Generación Unicaja’ has combined specialised training, skills assessment, coaching and mentoring sessions, as well as work in agile teams (Flex-Teams) to develop strategic projects. This approach has fostered a highly practical learning experience, the exchange of knowledge across generations and cross-functional collaboration between different areas of the bank.
ESADE and Deloitte have collaborated on the design and delivery of the programme, contributing their expertise in executive training, leadership and participant support, in coordination with the bank’s internal teams.
Talent: a strategic pillar
The closing event of this first edition served to highlight the role of talent as one of the strategic pillars of the organisation’s transformation and growth. In this regard, Isidro Rubiales, CEO of Unicaja, emphasised that “we are convinced that our key differentiating factor is our people. ‘Generación Unicaja’ represents a firm commitment to identifying, developing and showcasing the talent that drives the organisation’s transformation from within.” On this point, he stated that “the projects presented during this first edition demonstrate our professionals’ ability to provide innovative solutions and contribute directly to the objectives of the Strategic Plan.”
“Investing in talent is investing in Unicaja’s future and in our ability to continue generating value for customers, shareholders and society,” he emphasised, adding that “people are the true driving force behind an organisation, and this initiative reflects our commitment to our people and to creating an environment that fosters continuous learning, cross-functional collaboration and leadership development – essential elements for continuing to strengthen our corporate culture and our ability to adapt.”
For his part, Unicaja’s Director General for People, Organisation and Legal Affairs, Juan Medina, noted that “organisations that wish to successfully tackle the challenges of the future need to make a firm commitment to the development of their professionals”. “With ‘Generación Unicaja’,” he explained, “we have created a space where internal talent can grow, share knowledge, acquire new skills and play an active part in shaping the organisation’s future.”
With this initiative, Unicaja is strengthening its talent development model, which is based on identifying high-potential individuals, supporting them through structured training pathways and involving them directly in strategic initiatives. This approach enables ideas to be generated from within the organisation, strengthens the corporate culture and promotes continuous learning, in line with the current challenges facing the financial sector.
‘Generación Unicaja’ is part of the organisation’s commitment to establishing itself as an attractive environment for professional development – one of the pillars of the 2025–2027 Strategic Plan – and joins other collaborative initiatives with universities and academic institutions aimed at fostering employability and young talent.
