The director of Radio 5 (of Radio Nacional de España), Óscar Torres, has received the Miguel Delibes National Journalism Award, given by the Press Association of Valladolid with the sponsorship of Unicaja. The award, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of this radio station, recognizes Radio 5's untiring commitment for three decades “to the good use of Spanish, the enthusiasm in the informative work and the love for words, as well as the purpose of promoting our language via the radio”.
This award is unique in its field, as it rewards the correct use of language in the media, and is endowed with 6,000 euros provided by the main sponsor, Unicaja. Also collaborating in this 28th edition are the Cortes de Castilla y León, Valladolid Provincial Council, Alimentos de Valladolid, Valladolid City Hall, Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the Valladolid University and the Universidad Europea Miguel de Cervantes.
Óscar Torres spoke on behalf of the radio station, stating that at RNE “we have been taking care of and promoting Spanish for 30 years, trying to be perfect in our programs and micro-spaces, working tirelessly to bring together the main tools for the correct use of the language but, at the same time, telling it in an attractive way”.
The heads of the award-winning programs also took the stage: Un idioma sin fronteras, presented by Ángela Núñez, and Libros de Arena, presented by Susana Santaola. Four micro-spaces were also recognized (El palabrero, presented by Juan Antonio Vázquez; Letras en juego, with Juan Antonio Martínez Berbel; El español urgente con FundéuRAE, by Esmeralda Antona and Javier Bezos; and RAE informa, presented by María del Río.
The Miguel Delibes National Journalism Award has among its extensive list of winners outstanding figures of literature and journalism such as Fernando Lázaro Carreter, Juan José Millás, Luis María Anson, Ignacio Camacho, Iñaki Gabilondo, Pepa Fernández or Martín Caparrós, among many others.
