Unicaja sponsors the XX Trofeo Promoción Mini Sella, to be held on 6 August 2025, in Ribadesella (Asturias), with the expected attendance of about four hundred canoeists from different Spanish communities and also from other countries. Participants are paddlers of the categories u-14, u-12, u-10 and u-8, which will make a part of the route of the International Sella River Descent, coinciding with the days prior to its celebration.
Organized by Piragüismo El Sella, the Mini Sella has as its main goal the promotion of this sport from the earliest ages, promoting, in turn, culture, education and respect for the environment among children. In this sense, in addition to the sporting event, many additional activities have been organized.
The route will cover the last kilometers of the Sella River Descent and there are different categories for which prizes have been established. The race has two different starts, depending on these categories, the first will be from Campos de Oba in a circuit of 3.5 km, and the second, near El Peñón, with 1.5 km of route, for u-8 and u-10. Both will have their finish line at the bridge of Ribadesella.
As usual, there will be a parade through the streets of Ribadesella and, later, the awards ceremony will be held in the Plaza de Abastos, where the podium of the winners of the Sella is located.
International Sella River Descent
The celebration of the Mini Sella precedes the 87th International Sella River Descent, an event declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest, and which is also sponsored by Unicaja. This is one of the most traditional races and a hallmark of Asturian sport and culture, with which the bank has been collaborating for decades and which will be held on 9 August, starting in Arriondas and finishing in Ribadesella.
In addition, the bank has also collaborated with the Sella River Adapted Descent, an inclusive event, organized by the Sports Federation for People with Physical Disabilities of Asturias (FEDEMA), in which participants use adapted canoes. During the descent, volunteers and family members accompany each person with physical disabilities in the boat, promoting inclusion, teambuilding and participation.
As part of its sustainability policy, the bank maintains its commitment to contribute to the development of the areas where it operates and, in this case, Asturias, one of its regions of origin, supporting sporting and cultural events of such importance for Asturian society and, in this case, with an impact also at national and international level.
