Unicaja has presented the proposal “Atrévete a descubrir el sabor de Asturias”, as part of the 68th International Trade Fair of Asturias (FIDMA), in Gijón, which will be open from 2 to 17 August. The exhibition will take visitors on a tour of each area of the Principado de Asturias with its most typical products and dishes, through explanatory panels, images, objects and a video mapping installed on a map of the region in the center of the pavilion.

In addition, the exhibition is completed with a tribute to cider with the 1st Amateur Cider Pouring Competition, in which participants will be eligible for the final prize of a trip to Normandy for two people. Attendees will also have access to a "Scratch and Win", with the opportunity to win gifts and tastings for the Paseo Gastro de Gijón.

In this sense, Unicaja's space will show information about the origin, evolution and preparation of the most famous foods of the region through a tour of each of the fifteen gastronomic regions of Asturias.

This has been highlighted during the presentation of the exhibition, Unicaja’s deputy regional manager for North, Rafael Álvarez, accompanied by the first vice president of the Chamber of Commerce of Gijon, Pedro López.

"The goal is to show the gastronomic diversity of Asturias and highlight this wealth as a cultural value of our community," said Rafael Álvarez, stressing "the commitment of the bank with Asturias, supporting a gastronomic tradition that generates tourism, promotes economic development and crosses borders, as is the case of cider, declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity".

The presentation was also attended, on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce of Gijón, by its general secretary, Álvaro Alonso Ordás; and the head of coordination of the Fair Activity, David Argüelles; and, on behalf of Unicaja, the head of Companies in Asturias, Juan Carlos Martín Álvarez; the head of Private Banking in Asturias, Marcos González; the head of Asturias East, Jorge Sariego; and the manager of Corporate Banking North, Javier Gayol.

The exhibition "Atrévete a descubrir el sabor de Asturias" can be visited from 2 to 17 August at the Fundación Cajastur Pavilion, located at the International Trade Fair of Asturias (FIDMA), at the Luis Adaro Exhibition Center in Gijón.

1st Amateur Cider Pouring Competition

The pavilion also dedicates a space to the Intangible Heritage of Humanity with "El Rincon Sidrero", where visitors can take pictures in a fun photocall with typical Asturian phrases about cider.

In addition, the 1st Amateur Cider Pourers Competition has been called, to be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, from 18.30 to 20.00 hours, and whose final prize will be a trip to Normandy for two people, with the aim of knowing other cider areas.

The jury will be formed by members of the Asociación Asturiana de Escanciadores, who will be the ones who will rate the style, aiming, and exact amount poured. Previously, each participant will receive a small training to increase the knowledge of the cider culture and to value the importance of pouring.

A tour of fifteen gastronomic regions gastronómicas

Unicaja's exhibition invites to a walk through Asturias along fifteen gastronomic regions, discovering artisan treasures, entrepreneurs who defend and preserve the rural world, ancestral plantations or unbreakable traditions that elevate to art delicacies that are part of the Asturian cultural heritage and that are already a tourist attraction in themselves.

Through explanatory panels, with images and objects, the visitor will travel from the east of Asturias to Fuentes del Narcea and Bajo Nalón, from the Cider Region to Oscos Eo. From the neighboring Navia Historical Park to the Central Mountain and the Vaqueira Region, passing through Cape Peñas, the Camín Real de la Mesa, the Nalón Valley, the Nora Region, Avilés, Oviedo and Gijón.

In addition, a video mapping has been installed in the central part of the pavilion in which various images of this gastronomic wealth will be projected on a map of Asturias.

Unicaja focuses this edition on tourism and gastronomy, connecting with the spirit of the Paseo Gastro, to be held in the Paseo de Begoña and the Marina of Gijón, from 6 to 17 August, and with which the financial institution also collaborates.

In this sense, it has recreated, in the FIDMA pavilion, a stand, similar to the one that will be installed in the Paseo Gastro, where visitors can participate in a "Scratch and win" and opt for one of the 1,000 drinks that have been made available to redeem in the Paseo itself.
