The Escuela de Salamanca Chair, in which Unicaja participates together with the University of Salamanca and the Chamber of Commerce, has analyzed today the different alternatives for international trade in a context of different political conflicts. This topic has been addressed by Fernando Celaya, an expert in geopolitics, who has referred to the challenges faced by business owners and the impact on the economy of the tensions that are currently experienced in the international arena.

In Celaya's opinion, "the evident extension in time of the war in Ukraine, almost indefinitely, is something that benefits Russia and the countries of its orbit, as well as those geopolitically opposed to the West". The speaker also recalled the recent declarations of the Spanish Minister of Defense, who admitted the possibility of an open and real war in Europe, with nuclear risks.

He also referred to the situation generated by other conflicts with serious economic consequences, such as the situation in Gaza and the tensions in maritime traffic through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, or the cold war between China and Taiwan, with the consequences it could have as the world's main supplier of chips.

The aforementioned Salamanca Chair was created in April 2023 following an agreement between the University of Salamanca, the Chamber of Commerce and Unicaja, with the aim of vindicating, disseminating and promoting the functions of businesses within the market economy economic system.

Through it, the three driving entities proposed to set up different forums for the meeting, study, debate and reflection of economists, business owners, managers, academics of different levels and all those agents related to the business world, aimed at the whole society, and at Salamanca and its province in particular.

The approach included the intervention of relevant people from the economic world, from academics to renowned economists, heads of institutions or people who hold or have held relevant positions in organizations, who could offer their vision of some of the main problems faced by business owners.
