Unicaja Banco has reached an agreement with Ponferrada City Council to extend the assignment of its cultural facilities at Calle Río Selmo. This assignment, which dates from February 2014, will allow the Department for Culture of Ponferrada City Council to programme part of its cultural activities at the said building.

The agreement between the parties has been signed by Ponferrada Mayor, Olegario Ramón, and by Unicaja Banco’s Regional Manager at Leon, Marga Serna. The signing event was also attended by the Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Concepción de la Vega, and by the bank’s Northwestern Area Manager, José María García, and by the Manager of Ponferrada Branch (Plaza Julio Lazúrtegui), María José Vidal.

Unicaja Banco’s Regional Manager highlighted ‘the bank’s long-standing collaboration with Leon institutions, in order to foster the cultural development of Ponferrada and the whole province’.

The modern building owned by Unicaja Banco has a built surface of 1,100 sqm, featuring a hall with capacity for 216 people, equipped for film screenings, and with a piano on the stage, allowing for music recitals.

The cultural space assigned in recent years to Ponferrada City Hall includes a large exhibition room, with modular panels, and with 63 light sources suitable for the organization of painting and sculpture exhibitions. It also has a meeting room for 26 people, equipped with state-of-the-art technical systems.

Since it was inaugurated in December 1999, this Unicaja Banco cultural centre has hosted a broad range of activities, being one of the best-known spots of cultural and social life at Ponferrada. Its exhibition room has hosted many art displays and its hall has seen all kind of theatre and music shows, lectures and film screenings.

With the renewed agreement with the City Council, the facilities at Calle Río Selmo will remain as an important spot for cultural activities organized by the municipality
