Unicaja Banco and the Agrupación de Cofradías de Semana Santa de Málaga (Málaga Holy Week Brotherhoods’ Association), the oldest brotherhoods’ association in Spain, have renewed their collaboration agreement for one more year, with the aim of facilitating their activities and of supporting their projects, by means of a comprehensive and specific financial service that the bank puts at the disposal of the Association, on advantageous terms, especially in view of the difficult situation caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

This agreement reinforces the existing relationship between both institutions and has been signed by the Chairman of Unicaja Banco, Manuel Azuaga, and by the Chairman of the Agrupación de Cofradías de Semana Santa de Málaga, Pablo Atencia.

The agreement will benefit the 41 brotherhoods member of the Association, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2021. The anniversary celebration will consist of a series of cultural and religious events (such as a special procession –procesión magna-, an international congress of brotherhoods or exhibitions), with the sponsorship of Unicaja Banco. In this context, after the first presentation of the programme in Malaga, next Tuesday 6 October, it will be presented at Teatro Lope de Vega in Sevilla, in an event to be attended by representatives of the bank.

COVID-19 crisis

The support to the work of the Brotherhoods’ Association falls within the actions that Unicaja Banco develops aimed at the promotion and dissemination of Málaga Holy Week and of the work of Brotherhoods as the repositories of important social, religious, anthropological, cultural, historic and artistic values, and as generators of a relevant social, cultural and charitable activity in the city. Both institutions are committed to the development of initiatives to address the needs of different groups in Malaga in the context of the COVID-19 crisis.

The agreement entered into includes a full range of financial products and services¸ on advantageous terms and designed by Unicaja Banco to meet the needs and facilitate the activities of both the Agrupación de Cofradías de Semana Santa de Málaga and of its different brotherhoods.

The products and services offered include: financing for investment; current accounts with special conditions; specific services to manage payments and collections and to manage tax payments, or digital banking services. Unicaja Banco also offers a wide range of insurance products, advised and managed by Unimediación (insurance company of Grupo Unicaja Banco). These insurance policies may be collective or individual and may cover accidents, eventualities, damage to the Brotherhoods’ Houses (casas hermandades) or museums, liability and heritage.

Agrupación de Cofradías de Málaga

The Agrupación de Cofradías de Semana Santa de Málaga, established on 21 January 1921, is the first institution of that kind established in Spain, to represent and coordinate its interests and the public socio-religious celebrations.

It was established in order to gather all the religious fraternities of Malaga to enhance the processions of the Holy Week and to promote the collaboration between Brotherhoods.

It currently gathers 41 brotherhoods, with a social direct support which reaches nearly 80,000 members. Among its main activities, the following should be mentioned: the organization of processions in the city and the promotion and dissemination of the Holy Week of Malaga. Social and charitable works are also remarkable, in addition to the actions carried out individually by each brotherhood.
