Unicaja collaborates with the City Council of Gijón in the celebration of the 11th Open Water Swimming Circuit Gijón 2024, a series of races that began this weekend with the San Pedro swimming race and will continue until the end of the year with three other races.

In this first race, the swimmer Ana Ortiz de Guinea was proclaimed the absolute winner after reaching the finish line in 25:39 minutes. The winner of the men's category and second overall was Lucas Costa, who completed the course in 25:56 minutes.

This initiative, organized by the Municipal Sports Board, is part of the Asturias Open Water Circuit.

It aims to promote the sport through the practice of open water swimming, to enjoy a healthy physical activity outdoors and to enhance the value of this Asturian coastline.

Unicaja maintains a firm commitment to the promotion of sports and its values, giving visibility to different sports disciplines and promoting sports from the grassroots level, especially in the regions where it operates.

Circuit Races

The San Pedro race, starting from Dique de Santa Catalina to Playa de San Lorenzo, on a route of 1,900 meters, will be followed, on 20 July, by the Playas de Gijón race. On this occasion, athletes will complete a total of 3,500 meters from Peñarrubia Beach to San Lorenzo Beach.

On 24 August will take place race Playas del Oeste, with 4,500 meters covering the Poniente Beach, Osa Pier, L'Arbeyal Beach and back to the Poniente Beach. Coinciding with this event, the 3th Children's Open Water Simming will also be held, a non-competitive event, in which boys and girls from 8 to 14 years old can participate.

Finally, the traditional Christmas Open Water Swimming is a test that is part of the heritage of the city and has the added difficulty of low temperatures, both in the water and outside, although the route totals 220 meters.
