The journalist Mara Torres received yesterday the 27th edition of the Miguel Delibes National Award for Journalism, given by Valladolid Press Association (APV) with the sponsorship of Unicaja Banco, for her program El Faro, which is broadcasted in the early mornings from Monday to Friday on Cadena SER.

The award, given every year by the APV, is unique in its field, as it rewards the good use of Spanish language in the media, and is endowed with 6,000 euros provided by the main sponsor, Unicaja Banco. Other entities such as Cortes de Castilla y León, City Council of Valladolid, Provincial Council of Valladolid, Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Valladolid and the European University Miguel de Cervantes also collaborate in the award.

The winner of the 27th Miguel Delibes National Award for Journalism has highlighted, in a speech full of emotion, that ‘it is not necessary to make a program like this to know that there are a thousand ways to approach the same subject. The difference of opinion should not create more angry societies but more tolerant ones. With my colleagues from Valladolid, with friends from Madrid, with my group from Asturias... I enjoy the conversations in which there is controversy, in which we debate and discuss a lot of topics on which we do not all agree’.

The award ceremony paid tribute to the 30th anniversary of the current Valladolid Press Association.

From the public administrations, the award winner was accompanied by the President of the Cortes de Castilla y León, Carlos Pollán; the Mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero; the President of the Provincial Council of Valladolid, Conrado Íscar; the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Education and Culture of the City Council of Valladolid, Irene Carvajal; as well as members of the different political groups in the Cortes, the City Council and the Provincial Council. They were joined by Unicaja Banco’s Head of Stakeholder Relations, María José Rivera; the Vice Chancellor of the European University Miguel de Cervantes, David García; the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Valladolid, Javier Castán and representatives of the media and the Valladolid society.
