The 4th Financial Education Congress, organized by the Edufinet Project, promoted by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja, has been closed today. It has reached a participation of over 200 attendees and more than 1,200 views on the different channels where it has been broadcasted (YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook).

Likewise, the congress, held online and remote under the title ‘Financial Education for a time of paradigm shift’, has had the collaboration of more than 35 experts from different fields who have analysed for three days the future of this subject.

In view of the current situation caused by COVID-19 crisis, the 3rd Edufinet Congress, sponsored by Fundación de las Cajas de Ahorros (Funcas), has been held remotely from last Monday to Friday.

Speakers have included representatives from the Bank of Spain, the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV), CECA, Instituto Español de Analistas Financieros (IEAF) or the National Police. The universities of Malaga, Seville and Valencia, the UNED, the Complutense de Madrid or the English University of Buckingham have also participated, as well as professionals from law firms and financial institutions.

Topics covered

At the 14 sessions and the four roundtable panels the congress has been divided into, the participants have addressed topics such as the need of ongoing design of financial education programmes and its role in the last ten years.

It has also analyzed access to financial services by underage children as a learning tool; psychology and financial regulation; learning basic economic and financial concepts at home; basic financial skills that should be mastered by professional athletes; financial analysis as a pre-requirement to make financial decisions, or new taxation.

The economic and financial decisions of SMEs and individuals in the current energy market; skills in economics and finance for civil servants; financial education and its link with financial and non-financial entities; the impact of monetary policy measures on financial decision-making by individuals and companies, or basic calculation skills for financial education, have been other topics discussed.

Finally, the 2030 Agenda, the SDGs and their relationship with financial education have also been present at this event, as well as sustainable business models for entrepreneurs. Issues such cybercrime and fraud have been covered as well.

All of the above, with the general goal of becoming a meeting point for the main agents involved or interested in financial education; analyzing its current situation in order to identify trends, points of interest and challenges, and to share knowledge and experience.
