Unicaja has renewed its agreement with Club Deportivo Gijón Ciclismo -formerly Club Deportivo Escuela de Ciclismo Coque Uría de Gijón-, with the aim of continuing its support to the UCI Cyclocross team, with which it has been collaborating for several seasons and which also has the support of the local Town Hall.
The team is now called Unicaja-Gijón and has just released a new kit with the new corporate identity of Unicaja. The kit was presented during the "Dos Ruedas Meet" fair, held this weekend in Gijón.
The Unicaja-Gijón UCI Cyclocross Team, created in 2021, aims to maintain a competitive team at the national and European level, working from the base of cycling. It is a professional junior team that promotes inclusion, sports training and promotes the values of sport. Represented by its best elite/U23 cyclists, it has participated in major competitions around the world.
The Club also has young talents, led by some of the main exponents of national cyclocross, such as Mario Junquera and Sara Cueto.
Promoting sports from the grassroot level
Unicaja maintains a firm commitment to the promotion of sport and its values, giving visibility to the different sports disciplines and, especially, promoting grassroots sports.
In this sense, the Club Deportivo Gijón Ciclismo, has as its work philosophy the training and education of young people through cycling, considering its lower categories as a fundamental pillar of growth.
For 2024, in addition to the UCI cyclocross team, it has a women's team and an under-16 team, which will allow it to bring new talent to the professional team.
