Unicaja and Asociación Cultural Santa Bárbara de Mieres have signed a collaboration agreement under which the bank makes a wide range of products and services available to the association and its members on preferential terms, with the aim of facilitating the association’s activities and contributing to the achievement of its objectives, such as keeping alive the history, identity and traditions linked to the Asturian mining regions.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony attended, on behalf of Unicaja, by the head for Western and Southern Asturias, Ana María Lorenzana, and the manager of the Mieres-Manuel Llaneza branch, Rut Cancelo; and, on behalf of the Santa Bárbara Cultural Association, by its president, Felipe Burón.
Specifically, the agreement will enable the association and its members to access solutions tailored to their needs in areas such as financing, payment methods, insurance, savings and digital banking, amongst other financial and non-financial services. It also provides for specific terms for the association, its members and collaborators, thereby reinforcing Unicaja’s support for this community.
The Santa Bárbara Cultural Association, based in Mieres, is one of the leading organisations in the Asturian mining basins. Since its creation in 2002, it has been working on the conservation, restoration and promotion of the area’s historical and industrial heritage, whilst also promoting cultural, educational and social activities aimed at keeping the memory and identity of these territories alive.
With over 1,600 members and more than 500 volunteers, the association promotes many initiatives related to the protection and enhancement of heritage sites, the dissemination of the history of the mining basins and the organisation of activities open to the public, thereby helping to strengthen the social and cultural fabric of its local community.
Commitment to associations
On the occasion of the signing of this agreement, Rut Cancelo, manager of Unicaja’s Mieres-Manuel Llaneza branch, emphasised that “this collaboration reflects our commitment to organisations that carry out important social and cultural work. We want to support organisations such as the Santa Bárbara Cultural Association by providing them with tools and solutions that contribute to the development of their projects and the achievement of their objectives”.
She also emphasised that “being close to people, businesses and organisations is part of Unicaja’s identity. Our aim is to continue creating value in the regions where we operate, by supporting initiatives that contribute to progress, social cohesion and the preservation of cultural heritage”.
For his part, the president of the Santa Bárbara Cultural Association, Felipe Burón, expressed his gratitude for Unicaja’s collaboration and expressed his confidence that “these agreements will have a positive impact on the work we have been carrying out over the past 25 years to preserve mining culture and its heritage”.
Community engagement and support for local development
This initiative is part of Unicaja’s commitment to maintaining a close relationship with its customers and with the groups that contribute to the development of their communities. The bank places people at the heart of its activities and works to provide solutions tailored to their needs, whilst promoting initiatives that foster economic growth, social wellbeing and the cultural revitalisation of local areas.
Through agreements such as this, Unicaja reinforces its commitment to associations and to those organisations which, across various fields, help to preserve identity, history and heritage, whilst also fostering the creation of opportunities and the sustainable development of the local area.
