Casa Guerra, the iconic art nouveau building located on Calle Santa Clara in Zamora and owned by Unicaja, will reopen its doors on an exceptional basis next Sunday, 31 May, to host a concert featuring synthesizers and piano, as part of the ‘Y se hizo la luz’ project, which will take place in the city from 30 May to 3 June and will include three round-table discussions and a cultural programme to promote art nouveau and eclecticism in Zamora.
The initiative, organised by VitaliZa Producciones and Synergias, with the support of Zamora Town Hall and in partnership with Unicaja, brings together avant-garde music, heritage and history to celebrate the ‘second golden age’ of the capital during the 19th and 20th centuries. On 3 June, from 5.00 pm, the Teatro Principal will host three round-table discussions open to the public, which will analyse the industrial and architectural impact and the profile of the Zamora brand.
The project offers a complete immersion in an era when the arrival of the railway and electricity completely transformed the city. ‘Y se hizo la luz’ presents a vibrant experience that will take to the streets of Zamora with avant-garde concerts in Plaza Sagasta and on Calle Santa Clara, on Saturday 30 May and Sunday 31 May respectively, both starting at 9.30 pm.
Iconic building
After 15 years closed to the public, the iconic Casa Guerra, a building owned by Unicaja, will reopen its doors on an exceptional basis thanks to the collaboration between the production company VitaliZa Producciones and the bank.
Behind the imposing façade of Casa Guerra, a design straddling art nouveau and eclecticism by the celebrated architect Gregorio Pérez Arribas, lies a spectacular interior atrium, originally designed by Francisco Somoza.
Its acoustics, combined with an avant-garde lighting design spread across all floors of the building, will create an immersive atmosphere unprecedented in the city for the group formed by Diego Turrión and Juan Carlos Ferrero.
The reopening of Casa Guerra and the concert in Plaza Sagasta by Suricato Morse serve as the perfect preludes to the main event of the ‘Y se hizo la luz’ project, which will take place on 3 June.
Round-table discussions for a city waiting to be discovered
The main event will therefore take place on 3 June at the Teatro Principal in Zamora, starting at 5.00 pm, with free admission subject to availability. Under the slogan ‘Three round-table discussions, a city to discover’, this event will steer clear of technical jargon to offer a human, business and historical account divided into three main sections:
- The Zamora of the future: a look at the arrival of electricity and the railway and the development of the flour industry, which brought economic prosperity to Zamora.
- The architecture of Zamora’s renaissance: an analysis of art nouveau, eclecticism, art deco and other architectural styles linked to the city’s urban development.
- Let there be light | communicating heritage in the 21st century: a debate on communication, tourism and current strategies for promoting and marketing the Zamora brand and its art nouveau to the rest of the world in the 21st century.
The event will begin with the premiere of an exclusive audiovisual documentary that takes a bird’s-eye view of the capital, inviting institutions and ordinary citizens to look at Zamora with fresh eyes and to look up during their daily walks.
