Unicaja has held its Board of Directors meeting in Cáceres, reaffirming its commitment to Extremadura, one of its regions of origin, and, in particular, to this city, with which it maintains close ties.

The chairman of Unicaja, José Sevilla, stated that “our presence in Cáceres reflects the importance of Extremadura to Unicaja and our commitment to maintaining a close relationship with the region and with those who carry out their economic and social activities here”. In this regard, he added that “holding the Board meeting in Cáceres is a tangible demonstration of Unicaja’s commitment to continuing to generate value and strengthen its relationship with this region”.

For his part, the CEO, Isidro Rubiales, remarked that holding the Board meeting in the city “highlights Unicaja’s deep roots in Extremadura and the significance this region holds for the bank’s identity”. He also noted that this meeting “allows us to gauge the pulse of the region and continue tailoring our community banking model to the real needs of customers and businesses”.

Unicaja's commitment to Extremadura

The Board meeting falls within Unicaja’s strategy to contribute to the economic and social development of Extremadura through collaboration with public and private stakeholders and support for initiatives that generate value in the region.

In this way, the bank collaborates with the Regional Government of Extremadura on various programmes, including initiatives aimed at facilitating access to housing for young people and supporting key productive sectors for the region.

Unicaja is also strengthening its support for Extremadura’s business community through agreements with entities such as Extraval, aimed at facilitating financing for SMEs, the self-employed and entrepreneurs, through its participation in CEX Capital (Extremadura Business Corporation), with collaboration agreements with the Cáceres Chamber of Commerce, the Badajoz Chamber of Commerce, the Cáceres Business Circle, the Plasencia Business Circle and the Moralo Business Circle.

The commitment to the agri-food sector, which is strategic for Extremadura, is reflected in agreements with agricultural organisations and the bank’s presence at leading sector trade fairs such as Agroexpo, with the aim of promoting competitiveness, modernisation and liquidity for farmers and livestock breeders.

Additionally, as part of this institutional visit, the Board of Directors visited the Caja Extremadura Foundation, a shareholder of Unicaja and one of the bank’s founding institutions, which carries out outstanding work in the social and cultural spheres in the region. The meeting was held at the Foundation’s headquarters, where the Board expressed its gratitude for the invitation extended by the institution and highlighted its commitment to the region’s development.
