Around 150 clarinet students and teachers took part in March in the concerts of the tenth edition of ‘Creando Sinergia’ (CRESI), a leading educational and artistic project in Spain which, once again this year, has the backing of Unicaja. The performances took place in Oviedo, Astorga and Avilés, bringing together students from conservatories and music schools in Asturias, Cantabria and Castile and León.
The concerts were held on 15 March at the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo; on 22 March at the Gullón Theatre in Astorga; and finally on 27 March at the Casa Municipal de Cultura in Avilés, where this commemorative edition ended.
Musicians of all ages and different levels of training, from 18 educational centres, performed live on stage, forming a unique orchestra that stands out for its diversity and the large number of participants.
‘Creando Sinergia’ was created with the aim of fostering cooperation between students of different generations and promoting their artistic development through the clarinet, combining learning with cultural outreach.
Under the title ‘Algo muy nuestro’ (Something Very Much Our Own), this year’s artistic programme took a journey through Spanish music of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, featuring works by composers such as Isaac Albéniz, Enrique Granados and Manuel de Falla, amongst others. The repertoire was performed with arrangements specifically adapted for this collective format.
Unicaja’s support for this initiative forms part of its sustainability policy and its commitment to promoting culture and education, as well as to fostering activities that contribute to the social and cultural development of its home regions. Through this type of collaboration, the organisation reinforces its commitment to projects that foster young talent and access to culture.
CRESI 2026
CRESI 2026 is a pioneering educational innovation programme in Spain, which was launched in 2016 following a series of meetings between clarinet students from the ‘Anselmo González del Valle’ Professional Conservatory of Music in Oviedo and the ‘Eduardo Martínez Torner’ Higher Conservatory of Music of the Principado de Asturias. The positive results achieved encouraged these institutions to take on the challenge of organising an annual event involving students from conservatoires and music schools across different autonomous communities, who, each year, come together for rehearsal sessions culminating in a series of concerts.
Over the last two years, the ‘Anselmo González del Valle’ Professional Conservatory of Music has taken on full coordination of the project, under the technical direction of José Botas, with Iván Cuervo acting as the ensemble’s conductor.
The institutional backing and academic recognition of the project have enabled it to establish itself as a leading cultural initiative, thereby helping to ensure continuity and a wider reach for the educational and social aspects of the ‘Creando Sinergia’ project. In addition to the Regional Ministry of Education of the Principado de Asturias, this initiative has received support from the town councils of Oviedo, Avilés and Astorga, amongst other institutions.
