Unicaja has obtained the integrated international certifications ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management System), two benchmark standards that recognise the implementation of management models aimed at the continuous improvement of the organisation’s environmental and energy performance.
Obtaining these certifications, which cover 30 of the organisation’s buildings, is part of its Environmental, Energy and Climate Change Policy and represents a new milestone in its sustainability strategy. This progress reinforces its commitment to the responsible management of resources, the reduction of the environmental impact of its activities, and the integration of environmental and energy criteria into decision-making.
“Obtaining the ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certifications reinforces our commitment to responsible and sustainable management, systematically incorporating energy efficiency and environmental protection into our daily operations,” highlighted Manuel Guerrero, director general of Strategy and the CEO’s Office at Unicaja.
The ISO 14001 standard certifies that Unicaja has an effective environmental management system in place to identify, control and reduce the impacts arising from its activities, as well as to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations. For its part, the ISO 50001 certification recognises the implementation of an energy management system aimed at optimising energy consumption, improving energy efficiency and contributing to the reduction of associated emissions.
“At DNV, we wish to acknowledge the efforts made by Unicaja to implement and maintain management systems aligned with the highest international standards. Obtaining these certifications demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement, energy efficiency and the responsible management of environmental impacts,” said Ana del Río, Technical and Operations Director at DNV in Iberia.
With these certifications, Unicaja consolidates its position as an organisation committed to ESG (environmental, social and governance) principles, actively contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals and the transition towards a more efficient and environmentally friendly economy.
In this field, Unicaja has a Sustainability Policy aligned with the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Global Compact and the 2023 Agenda, and is a signatory to international initiatives such as the Global Compact Principles and the Collective Commitment for Climate Action (COP2025).
Unicaja views the sustainability challenge, in all its facets, as an opportunity for development and improvement in its day-to-day management. The bank offers a suitable range of products and services and continues to work on reducing its carbon footprint, managing climate and environmental risk, and fostering a corporate culture focused on sustainability.
