On the occasion of the Financial Education Day, this Monday, 6 October, the Edufinet Project of financial education, promoted by Fundación Unicaja and Unicaja, has organized a financial education hackathon, in which about 160 baccalaureate students from schools in the provinces of Almeria, Cordoba, Granada and Huelva are participating today.

The Faculty of Economics and Business Science of the University of Malaga hosts this event, seven hours long, where participants, grouped into teams of six to eight students, must present a solution to a challenge posed related to financial education. To do so, they have the support and help of ten professors to guide them and resolve any doubts they may have. After the presentation of their proposals, the awards ceremony will take place, both for the winning team and for those selected as finalists.

This event is part of the program of training activities that Edufinet will develop, with the collaboration of Funcas Educa, throughout this week, within the framework of the Financial Education Day, an initiative promoted by the Financial Education Plan (PEF), promoted by the Bank of Spain, the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, which also has a large number of collaborators.

This year's celebration is presented under the slogan ‘Get informed, Plan and Decide', with the aim of highlighting the advantages of good financial planning, based on sufficient training and information, in order to make the best economic decisions at each stage of life, and thus contribute to building a stable and secure future.

In fact, this has been the central point around which this hackathon revolves, with which the Edufinet Project seeks to promote the financial training of young people, in a practical, fun and entertaining way, in an environment of participation and collaboration, with the aim of stimulating financial knowledge and skills, practical learning, as well as the generation of ideas, creativity, innovation and cooperation. All this, through the application of active methodologies and cross-cutting competencies.

Workshop at the Edufinet Center in Salamanca

Another of the training actions that Edufinet has carried out this Monday, to commemorate the Financial Education Day, is a workshop, aimed at secondary education students, which was held at the Edufinet Center for Financial Education in Salamanca. Some 25 students in the 4th year of ESO, from the Montessori School in the province, took part in this activity, which lasted an hour and a half and whose focus was also aligned with the slogan of this edition of Financial Education Day.

During this financial education workshop, the students have learnt basic concepts and notions about the world of finance, which have enabled them to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the management of their own economy in the future. Among other aspects, they have addressed issues such as savings, financial decision-making, economic and financial indicators, money, means of payment, loans, notions about fixed income, variable income, prevention and detection of online risks (cybersecurity) or sustainability.

Afterwards, they were taken on a guided tour of the Edufinet Center in Salamanca, where they had the opportunity to enjoy the wide range of interactive activities it offers. These include: an exhibition on basic concepts, economic and financial curiosities, a timeline reflecting the historical evolution of money and an interactive games area equipped with tablets.

In parallel, Edufinet also reinforces with this week its informative and educational work, under the Financial Education Day and the motto of this edition, with the organization of conferences, the dissemination of audiovisual content through its social network profiles and podcast platforms, and publications from its blog (EdufiBlog).
