The Edufinet Project, a financial education program promoted by Fundación Unicaja and Unicaja, is once again taking part this week in a new edition of Global Money Week (GMW). This is a worldwide initiative, promoted by the OECD's International Network for Financial Education (INFE), which is held annually, with the aim of promoting the importance of financial education among young people, from an early age, to ensure that they make the right decisions throughout their lives in the field of finance.
Global Money Week takes place this year from 17 to 23 March, under the slogan 'Give that like doesn't earn you money. Take care of your money', with a wide range of activities, whose theme revolves around the evolution of digital finance in social networks; the way in which consumers interact with online financial services, and how it can make it difficult for young people to identify reliable information and advice.
In this sense, the Edufinet Project has designed a complete program of educational actions throughout these days, which, in line with this new edition of Global Money Week, will be focused on promoting informed financial decision-making, the identification and detection of misleading advice and the need to raise awareness among young people about the risks and biases associated with finfluencers (financial influencers) and social networks, among other aspects.
The activities to be carried out by Edufinet include the development of some thirty financial education sessions, both in person and online format, which will benefit more than 2,600 people. These sessions, which share the slogan of this year's GMW, are aimed at Secondary and Baccalaureate students, as well as 5th and 6th year Primary schoolchildren, and will be held in schools in various Spanish towns and cities. These activities will also be extended to senior citizens, who will be given face-to-face workshops at Puntos Vuela centers.
On the other hand, the Edufinet Center for Financial Education in Salamanca will host a day for high school students, where in addition to receiving an informative talk, they will be able to visit the facilities and learn first-hand about the training offered by this center specialized in financial education. Among other activities, they will visit an exhibition on basic concepts, economic and financial curiosities and advice on cybersecurity, which will be presented on eleven panels with an educational and entertaining approach; a timeline on the historical evolution of money over the centuries; as well as an area with interactive financial games developed by the Edufinet Project, equipped with tablets, and a training classroom.
In parallel, within the framework of the Global Money Week campaign, Edufinet also plans to disseminate educational content on its social media profiles throughout the week, through specific posts and short videos, which will also be reflected on its website. Likewise, the weekly activity of the Edufinet blog (EdufiBlog) will be aligned with the central theme of this edition.
Edufinet and Global Money Week
Edufinet is once again joining Global Money Week, which, this year, focuses on various aspects related to digital finance, covering topics ranging from the emergence of finfluencers to the growing rise of artificial intelligence, as factors that often make it difficult to identify reliable information and advice among young people. Another of its central themes is the impact of emotions and behavioral biases on the financial decision-making of this segment of the population, especially under peer pressure and the influence of social networks, as well as the need to strengthen their knowledge and skills in financial matters for better management of their economy in the digital age.
In this context, it also highlights the importance of young people developing a critical eye towards information sources, enhancing their ability to recognize emotional triggers, so that they can better navigate the financial markets and detect biased advice in order to make sound and intelligent financial decisions in the future.
Two decades of history in financial education
The Edufinet Project is one of the pioneering financial education programs in Spain, with two decades of experience, and currently has the collaboration of ten institutions and business organizations, as well as 17 universities. It is one of the most active agents in the fields of financial education and inclusion, and is characterized as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project of an altruistic nature, combining activities in both classroom and online formats. It also has two centers specialized in financial education, in Malaga and Salamanca.
Since its launch, more than 300,000 people have participated in person in the many seminars, workshops, courses and conferences it has organized. Its web portals have received more than 11 million sessions, with access from some 180 countries and close to 20 million page views.
Its website (www.edufinet.com) offers practical and educational information on the financial world through different sections (Edufinext, Edufiemp, Edufitech, Edufiblog, Edufisport, Edufiagro and Edufiacademics). Other lines of action include courses and conferences (in-person and online) and publications, in addition to the educational work carried out through its social media profiles (YouTube, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok) and the podcast platforms iVoox and Spotify.
Its work has been distinguished throughout this time with several awards, including the Finance for All 2024 Award, granted by the Financial Education Plan, in the category of best financial education initiative, and three distinctions in the CECA Awards for Social Work and Financial Education 2023-2024. It has also been recognized as a finalist in the Vuela 2024 Awards.
