The Faculty of Law at the University of Málaga (UMA) hosted the legal conference ‘Panorama actual en litigios con consumidores’ (‘Current Outlook on Consumer Litigation’) on Thursday, an event that brought together nearly fifty professionals from the academic and legal fields to analyse the main challenges posed by consumer litigation.

The initiative, organised by the UMA and sponsored by Unicaja, took place in the Law Faculty’s Judicial Lecture Theatre, with the support of Red Andaluza de Investigación en Modelos de Eficiencia Procesal (RAIMEP).

The programme was structured around four panel discussions, which addressed issues such as class actions, litigation funding, recent case law from the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in the consumer sector.

The sessions were attended by professors and lecturers from various Spanish universities, including those in Málaga, Almería, Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Jaén, Pablo de Olavide University in Seville, Valencia and UTAMED, alongside professionals from the legal sector.

Representing Unicaja were Gonzalo Sánchez del Cura, head of Litigation Advisory; Ana Pedroza, head of Technology and Privacy Advisory; and Alfonso Campos, CEO of Procesa Abogados (Unicaja Group), who provided a practical perspective from the financial sector on some of the current legal challenges.

The conference served as a forum for reflection on the evolution of procedural law in consumer matters and the need to adapt the judicial system to the new scenarios arising from collective litigation and digital transformation.

The event was opened by its directors, Yolanda de Lucchi López-Tapia, professor of Procedural Law at the University of Málaga, and Milagros López Gil, associate professore, who highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration between the university and legal professionals.

Unicaja’s involvement in this type of initiative is part of its commitment to academic legal research and to sharing the results achieved with legal professionals.
