The Edufinet Project, fostered by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja, and the Spanish Conference of Deans of Business and Economics (Confede, Conferencia Española de Decanas y Decanos de Economía y Empresa) will collaborate to develop jointly activities aimed to promote financial education among citizens.

For the development of these programmes to give the society a clear view of the world of economics and finance, Unicaja Banco, Fundación Unicaja and Confede have signed a general collaboration protocol.

The agreement has been signed today in Malaga in an event attended by the Head of the Edufinet Project and General Director of General and Technical Secretariat at Unicaja Banco, José M. Domínguez; the Head of Publications and Awards at Fundación Unicaja, Francisco Cañadas, an the President of Confede and Dean of the Faculty and Economics and Business at the University of Malaga (UMA), Eugenio José Luque.

Confede, established in 1998, is a nation-wide organization, integrated by the deans of the official centers authorized to provide university undergraduate degrees in the fields of economics and business in Spain.

Its goals include the promotion, improvement and coordination of the studies in economics and business at the different faculties via the creation of discussion forums, open to all the Spanish universities, and covering topics of interest for the university education of these disciplines.

In short, Confede acts as an interlocutor with the public authorities in relation to those regulations affecting the university education in the field of economics and business, in close coordination with the Confederation of Vice-Chancellors of Spanish Universities (CRUE, Conferencia de Rectores de las Universidades Españolas).

Edufinet Project, nearly 15 years of history

The Edufinet Project was launched at the end of 2007, although its development began in 2005, within Unicaja, with the collaboration of the International University of Andalusia (UNIA) and of the University of Malaga (UMA).

Edufinet is currently supported by more than ten business institutions and organizations, as well as by 15 universities, including, in addition to UNIA and UMA, the University Pablo de Olavide from Sevilla (UPO), the University of Jaen (UJA), University of Cordoba (UCO), Almeria (UAL), the Distance Education University (UNED), University of Salamanca (USAL), León (ULE), Huelva (UHU), Granada (UGr), Burgos (UBU), Cadiz (UCA), Valladolid (UVA) and the Protuguese University of Algarve (UAlg).

Since it was launched nearly 15 years ago, more than 152,000 have participated in the different seminars, workshops, courses and lectures that it has implemented, of which more than 108,000 have attended the Conferences on Financial Education for Young People, which have reached the eleventh edition and are linked to the Financial Olympics.

The website www.edufinet.com has registered so far more than 7.8 million visits, with access from nearly 180 countries. Edufinet offers two additional specific Internet portals: one aimed at business owners and entrepreneurs (Edufiemp) and one aimed at financial education for young people (Edufinext).

The Edufinet Project will also organize new activities during the school year 2019-2020, such as the I Workshops on Financial Education for Primary Education Students, a screening series on financial films and games and competitions on finance, available on its website.

In addition to those activities, the Project works in other initiatives, such as Financial Guide in English, a simulator of business plans for new projects, or a microsite on fintech.

Finally, Edufinet will continue to organize the 3rd Conferences on Financial Education for Vocational Training and those aimed at adults. The goal of those activities is to provide participants with a clear view of the world of economics and finance.
