The Edufinet financial education project, promoted by Unicaja and Fundación Unicaja, is aware of the importance of bringing the keys to the financial world closer to all sectors of the public, regardless of age, to ensure that they make the right decisions in the field of economics and finance.

For this reason, senior citizens are a priority group of interest within Edufinet's educational program, as evidenced by the development during this time of several training actions aimed at this demographic, with the objective of promoting their financial and digital inclusion, which are spread throughout the year.

Specifically, this financial education project has carried out, during the first quarter of the year, 40 specific training workshops for the over-60s. During this period, more than 500 people have participated in these sessions in person, in Andalusia; to which should also be added more than 356,000 online views accumulated to date on the digital channels and platforms of the Edufinet Project, as well as on its social media profiles.

The goal pursued with these activities is for the senior citizens to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to manage their personal finances with sufficient autonomy, as well as to improve their skills, especially in the use of digital banking tools and services. In this way, it is also intended to facilitate their technological transition, taking into account the digital transformation process that society is undergoing today and that affects this group to a greater extent when carrying out different procedures in their daily lives.

In these specific sessions on financial education, a series of theoretical and practical contents are addressed, depending on the users' previous level of knowledge. In this sense, the members of the Edufinet Project team, supported by its wide network of professional volunteers, transfer basic notions about the world of finance, in general, paying special attention to the use of ATMs and digital banking (in its web and mobile application formats).

In addition, in order to enable them to apply the knowledge they have acquired and to help them adapt to the digital world, the use of technological tools that allow them to perform the most common operations in a simulated practical environment is also made available to participants.

In short, the idea is that senior citizens can also benefit from the opportunities and advantages offered by the current digital environment, while at the same time being aware of the challenges and risks involved. For that reason, these workshops also provide useful information on cybersecurity, applied to the world of finance, as well as examples and practical advice to help them detect and protect themselves from possible cyber risks, when they carry out any type of online financial transaction in their daily lives.

Edufinet Project, a pioneering financial education initiative

With nearly two decades of experience, the Edufinet Project is one of the pioneering financial education programs in Spain and currently has the collaboration of a dozen institutions and business organizations, as well as 17 universities.

This program has been operating since the end of 2007 through an Internet portal aimed at all types of audiences, although it began to be developed in 2005 (www.edufinet.com). Its website offers a wide variety of contents, with practical and educational information on the financial world, which can be consulted through different sections (Edufinext, Edufiemp, Edufitech, Edufiblog, Edufisport, Edufiagro and Edufiacademics). It also has a channel on YouTube, profiles on the social networks Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok, and a presence on the podcast platforms iVoox and Spotify.

Since its inception, almost 260,000 people have participated in person in the various seminars, workshops, courses and conferences it has organized. In fact, its web pages have accumulated more than 20 million visits to date, with access from almost 180 countries.

The Edufinet Project is one of the most active agents in the fields of financial education and inclusion in our country, whose work has been recognized during this time with several awards, including several distinctions in the CECA Social Work and Financial Education Awards.
