Unicaja's Edufinet Project starts the new season with the 11th Conferences on Financial Education for Young People and a new edition of its congress, with thirty speakers and moderators

The Edufinet Project, fostered by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja, will organize the 11th Conferences on Financial Education for Young People, which start on 18 October in Granada. Additionally, on 21 and 22 November, it will organize in Malaga the second edition of the Congress on Financial Education, with thirty speakers and moderators from different fields.

Edufinet will also update its course on Introduction to Financial Education, available to the general public through its website. Its contents, organized in six units, are to be followed through an online interactive course.

 

The goal of all these activities is to strengthen the education on finance, to identify challenges and to increase the efficiency of the financial education programmes, as expressed today in an event attended by representatives of Edufinet, the Bank of Spain and the CNMV.

 

The Edufinet Project, fostered by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja, will organize, among the activities planned for this season, the 11th Conferences on Financial Education for Young People, starting on 18 October in Granada and with an attendance last year of 19,000 participants. Additionally, on 21 and 22 November, it will organize in Malaga the 2nd Congress on Financial Education, with thirty speakers and moderators from different fields and institutions.

 

Edufinet will also update its course on Introduction to Financial Education, available to the general public through its website. From now on, the course contents -organized in six units- are to be followed through an online interactive course.

 

The goal of these activities is to strengthen the education on finance, to identify challenges and to increase the efficiency of the financial education programmes, as expressed today in an event attended by the Head of Edufinet Project and General Director of General and Technical Secretariat an Unicaja Banco, José M. Domínguez, and by by the General Director of Fundación Unicaja, Sergio Corral, as well as by the Bank of Spain’s Head of the Division of Banking Customer Relations, Julio Gil, and by the coordinator of the Financial Education Area of the Strategy and Institutional Relations Department of the CNMV, María Eugenia Cadenas.

 

During the event, the 11th Conferences on Financial Education for Young People were presented. The workshops will start on 18 October in Granada and are addressed to Baccalaureate students. This initiative is linked to the 11th Financial Olympics, a competition where the participants will put into practice the knowledge and skills that they have acquired.

 

The Conferences on Financial Education for Young People recorded last year a participation of more than 19,000 high school students from Andalusia, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura and Ceuta and Melilla. The goal for this season is to reach all the provinces in Castilla y Leon.

 

Congress on Financial Education

 

The 2nd Congress on Financial Education (www.edufinetcongress2019.es), to be held in Malaga, at Unicaja Banco’s Financial Education Centre in Avenida de Andalucía, 23, and supported by the Foundation of Savings Banks (Funcas, Fundación de las Cajas de Ahorros), will cover different topics. For that purpose, it will have the knowledge and experience of thirty participants, including speakers and commentators, from different public and private institutions.

 

In sum, with this appointment the Edufinet Project intends to create again a meeting point between the main agents involved in financial education, such as professionals, academics and representatives from institutions.

 

The agenda of the congress will include 12 sessions that will deal with different topics and will be organized under different sections. Sessions of 21 November will cover the following areas: goals of financial literacy and its relation to entrepreneurship, investment services, behavioural economics, the training of volunteers participating in financial education activities, lending standards for entrepreneurs and businesses or population ageing. 

 

The six remaining sessions will be developed on 22 November and will focus on the assessment of financial literacy programmes and financial education and millennials, taxes, digitalization and the subscription of financial products and climate change.

 

Edufinet Project

 

The Edufinet Project was launched at the end of 2007, although its development began in 2005, within Unicaja, with the collaboration of the International University of Andalusia (Universidad Internacional de Andalucía, UNIA) and the University of Malaga (UMA). During its nearly 15 years of history, this pioneering financial education initiative has received several awards.

 

Edufinet has the support of 15 universities and more than ten business institutions and organizations. Since it was launched, more than 152,000 have participated in the different seminars, workshops, courses and lectures that it has implemented, of which more than 108,000 have attended the Conferences on Financial Education for Young People. The website www.edufinet.com has registered so far more than 7,8 million visits, with access from nearly 180 countries.
