The Edufinet financial education project, promoted by Fundación Unicaja and Unicaja, is celebrating its ‘Financial Education Week’ with a wide- range of activities aimed at different audiences, which will kick off this coming Monday, 5 October, to mark Financial Education Day. Edufinet is thus joining this initiative promoted by the Financial Education Plan (PEF), which, this year, is being held under the slogan ‘Save. Invest. Move forward’.

Among the educational activities planned by Edufinet this week are a financial education hackathon for young people, a series of workshops and theatre performances aimed at both young and older people, as well as a series of sessions on financial education applied to the world of marketing.

In line with the theme of Financial Education Day, this year’s activities highlight the importance of saving and investing as essential pillars for improving the financial well-being of Spanish households and for making progress towards personal and professional goals, as a result of informed financial decision-making.

Financial Education Day is an initiative driven by the Financial Education Plan, promoted by the Bank of Spain, the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, and which also involves a large number of partners.

This event has become a key annual occasion, around which various activities are organised, with the aim of highlighting the contribution of financial education to the development of knowledge and skills that enable people to manage their personal finances more effectively and make more responsible financial decisions.

Talk and financial education hackathon for young people

The Edufinet Project has designed a varied programme of events throughout the week, featuring a range of formats and content aimed at different groups, in collaboration with Funcas Educa.

Edufinet’s ‘Financial Education Week’ will begin next Monday with a session at the Edufinet Centre for Financial Education in Salamanca, aimed at 25 students of the 4th year of Secondary Education pupils from the Montessori school in the province. This talk on financial education will be further complemented by a guided tour of the Edufinet Centre’s facilities, where the students will take part in various exhibition-based and interactive activities.

Following the success of the previous edition, Edufinet will once again hold its financial education hackathon for young people this year – an initiative for which it was recognised at the latest CECA Awards – and which will once again take place on Tuesday 6 October at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies at the University of Málaga (UMA).

Around a hundred baccalaureate students are expected to take part in this six-hour event. Divided into teams of six to eight members, they will have to propose a solution to a set challenge or activity, with the support of around ten teachers. The initiative will culminate in the selection of a winning team and the presentation of various awards at a ceremony. The aim is to bring financial education to young people in a practical, fun and engaging way, within an atmosphere of cooperation and participation focused on hands-on learning, through the use of active teaching methods and cross-curricular skills.

Workshops and theatre performances for senior citizens

Another of Edufinet’s initiatives during this event is the staging of the play ‘Las cosas fáciles’, an activity it has been promoting since 2023, produced by the Blanca Marsillach Theatre Company, to promote the financial and digital inclusion of seniors. This performance will take place in two morning sessions on both Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October at the Cartuja Centre Auditorium in Seville.

On Thursday 8, its new Financial Education and Marketing Series will begin at the Faculty of Marketing and Management at the University of Málaga (UMA). As part of this initiative, which will run throughout the 2026–2027 academic year, a series of lectures will be offered in a format that encourages audience participation, thanks to the inclusion of a final question-and-answer session and a subsequent discussion.

This week’s events will conclude on Friday 9 with two financial education sessions aimed at senior citizens, held at the Huerta de la Salud Cultural Centre, run by the Hortaleza Municipal Council in Madrid, and at the Punto Vuela in Bobadilla Estación, Málaga. During these two sessions, the key aspects of cybersecurity and digital finance will be conveyed to this group in a practical way, through various educational games and training resources, with the aim of bridging the digital divide and helping them to prevent potential risks and fraud in this area.

Over the course of these days, Edufinet will also step up its outreach and educational work, centred on the theme of this year’s Financial Education Day, both through its workshops and by sharing audiovisual content via its social media profiles and podcast platforms.
