The 71st Valladolid International Film Festival (Seminci), sponsored by Unicaja, will bring together 20 Spanish films and co-productions across its various sections. Nine will have their world premiere and one its European premiere.
The programme for the festival, which will take place in Valladolid from 23 to 31 October, was presented in Madrid, with actors and directors from this year’s films in attendance.
Titles competing in the Official Selection will include Hermanas, the feature debut of Ione Hernández Sáenz, starring Elena Anaya and Emma Suárez, which explores family ties and the moral dilemmas arising from a shared wound; La violinista, only the second animated film in the festival’s history to compete for the Golden Spike, following recognition at the prestigious Annecy Festival; and Las islas afortunadas, by Helena Girón and Samuel M. Delgado, a film set in the 15th-century Canary Islands that reflects on historical memory and the legacy of colonisation.
The programme will also feature several out-of-competition world premieres, including El confidente, the new thriller by Daniel Calparsoro, inspired by real events connected with the final years of ETA and starring Javier Gutiérrez and Miguel Herrán; Una familia, actor Ricardo Gómez’s feature-film directorial debut; and Un hombre en un puente, by David Martín de los Santos, a story about returning to one’s roots and personal renewal.
Among many other offerings, the festival will also host the premiere of the Movistar Plus original series Matar a un oso, by Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo, and SerYo, a documentary directed by Marta Solaz, Sergio Peris-Mencheta and Verónica Díaz Pérez
