Unicaja has been recognised by Global Finance, an international magazine specialising in financial information, as the best bank for digital transformation in Spain in 2026, in the first round of the World’s Best Consumer Digital Bank Awards for Western Europe. The recognition highlights the evolution of the bank’s digital channels and services and the work carried out to facilitate a simpler, more agile and secure relationship with its customers.
The award builds on the leadership achieved by Unicaja’s apps for private individuals and businesses in their respective categories in the AQMetrix ranking for June 2026. Added to this is the 30-point improvement recorded by Unicaja’s digital Net Promoter Score (NPS) during the first half of the year.
These results reflect the progress of a strategy aimed at improving the digital experience and offering individuals, the self-employed and businesses greater capabilities to manage their transactions independently.
Joaquín Sevilla, Unicaja’s head of Digital and Remote Banking, stated that “the bank’s aim is to continue improving the digital experience and to facilitate a relationship that is increasingly simple, agile, secure and tailored to our customers’ needs, in line with the objectives of our Strategic Plan”.
The award, presented by Global Finance at the 27th edition of these awards, recognises Unicaja’s progress within the Spanish financial sector and its use of technology to improve services and customer relations.
Transformation focused on the customer experience
Unicaja’s digital transformation is one of the key areas of focus in its 2025–2027 Strategic Plan, which places improving the customer experience among its top priorities. This transformation helps to simplify the relationship with the bank and to respond to the new ways in which individuals, the self-employed and businesses interact.
Over the last few months, Unicaja has introduced improvements to its digital platforms and channels to streamline processes, expand self-service capabilities, facilitate the digital purchase of products and services, and enhance usability.
Among the solutions developed are Unicaja Key, a strong authentication system that enables transactions to be validated; digital savings accounts, which help customers progress towards their savings goals through automated contributions; and Nica, the virtual assistant based on generative artificial intelligence that facilitates access to information and the resolution of enquiries. Also noteworthy are the expansion of remote channels and the digital mortgage platform supported by open banking.
The improvement in the digital experience has also been reflected in customer satisfaction indicators. During the first half of 2026, Unicaja improved its digital NPS by 30 points – an indicator that measures the level of satisfaction and willingness to recommend among users of these channels.
Both digital apps lead their categories according to AQMetrix
The recognition from Global Finance comes on top of the results achieved by Unicaja’s apps for retail and business customers in the AQMetrix ranking for June 2026.
According to this analysis, Unicaja’s mobile banking app for private customers tops the rankings in its category, whilst the Unicaja Empresas app also occupies first place in its category. The study compares the availability, performance and features of digital services across a group of 18 financial institutions.
The assessment of both apps demonstrates how the improvements made to digital channels are resulting in a simpler and more streamlined experience for private customers, the self-employed and businesses.
Unicaja’s digital strategy combines technology, innovation and a personal touch. Digital channels enable customers to carry out day-to-day banking with greater autonomy, whilst personalised service and specialist advice continue to support customers in decisions requiring more tailored assistance.
