The Edufinet Project, a financial education programme promoted by Fundación Unicaja and Unicaja, has held a new session as part of its Financial Education for Sport series, focusing on this occasion on the economic and financial management of LALIGA clubs and their impact as business organisations with a global reach.

In its seventh session, this series of conferences, organised by Edufinet through its EdufiSport initiative and hosted by the Faculty of Marketing and Management at the University of Málaga (UMA), featured the participation of Jaime Blanco, head of the LALIGA Clubs Office, on 21 May. The event was introduced by María del Mar Molina, a member of the Edufinet Project team, and by Daniel Ruiz, academic secretary of the faculty.

During his presentation, Blanco analysed the management and operation of the Spanish football business from the perspective of the sports organisation he represents, which is the governing body for professional competitions in this sport at national level and is considered one of the most influential leagues in the world, with particular focus on its relationship with the clubs that make up the league.

In addition to addressing the economic and business aspects of the elite level of the sport, this roundtable highlighted the key role played by LALIGA and its clubs as global ambassadors who contribute to the commercial growth of Spanish football and to expanding its brand value in the international market. Among the main challenges currently facing these sports organisations, the importance of balancing their profitable business structure with their social work as institutions that represent and promote positive values associated with sport was also highlighted, as sport is a fundamental driver of cohesion, bringing society together and breaking down cultural barriers.

The participatory event concluded with a question-and-answer session that facilitated a direct exchange of ideas with the audience. It was streamed live via the Edufinet Project website and its thematic portal EdufiSport, where it can also be viewed on demand, thereby extending its educational reach beyond the in-person format.

Financial Education for Sports

This is the seventh session organised by the Edufinet Project as part of this initiative, whose work has been recognised by CECA at the 20th edition of its 2024-2025 Social Work and Financial Education Awards.

The series of conferences on Financial Education for Sports was launched last October, with the support of Funcas Educa and in collaboration with the Faculty of Marketing and Management at the University of Málaga, and runs throughout the 2025–2026 academic year through Edufinet’s sports-focused initiative, EdufiSport, where this project has been promoting specific financial education initiatives aimed at the world of sport since 2020.
