Unicaja has signed a collaboration agreement with the Regional Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Planning of the Xunta de Galicia to join this autonomous community’s guarantee scheme, designed to help citizens, particularly those under 36, purchase their first home. This support programme is one of the most sought-after by young people in Galicia.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday by the Regional Minister for Housing and Infrastructure Planning, María Martínez, and by Unicaja’s North-West regional manager, Manuel Rubio, at an event held in Santiago de Compostela. Three other financial institutions operating in the region have also signed up to the agreement.
Under this agreement, the financial institution will guarantee 80% of the mortgage for applicants, whilst the regional government will contribute the remaining 20% to help these young people purchase a home. Specifically, the regional government will allocate five million euros to guarantee these mortgage loans; in the case of social housing, there is no age limit for accessing these guarantees.
The deadline for applying for this assistance is 30th of this month.
Strategic support
With this new agreement, which joins others signed with other autonomous communities, Unicaja, as part of its sustainability policy and community engagement strategy, is reinforcing its commitment to young people, recognising the difficulties this section of the population often faces when trying to enter the property market.
