The Edufinet Project on financial education project, promoted by Fundación Unicaja and Unicaja, joins next Monday, 6 October, the celebration of the Financial Education Day, with a wide program of activities, which will take place over the next week and whose central theme is the importance of training and information in the financial decision-making process.

Among other training activities planned by Edufinet for these days, the celebration of a financial education hackathon for young people, a conference for secondary school students at the Edufinet Center for Financial Education in Salamanca and the start of a cycle of financial education applied to the world of sports stand out. As part of this celebration, it will also commemorate the 20th anniversary of its creation with a major event, which will take place at the Fundación Unicaja Cultural Center in Malaga.

The Financial Education Day is an initiative promoted by the Financial Education Plan (PEF), promoted by the Bank of Spain, the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, and which also has a large number of collaborators.

This new edition is presented under the slogan 'Get informed, plan and decide' (‘Infórmate, planifica y decide’), with the aim of highlighting the advantages of good financial planning, based on sufficient training and information, in order to make the best economic decisions at each stage of life, and thus contribute to building a stable and secure future.

Activities throughout the week

This year, on the occasion of Financial Education Day, the Edufinet Project has prepared many training activities, with the collaboration of Funcas Educa, which focus on the importance of transferring to society as a whole the financial knowledge and skills necessary for citizens to be able to manage their personal finances autonomously and safely.

Edufinet's 'Financial Education Week' starts with the celebration next Monday, 6 October, of a financial education hackathon for young people, in the Faculty of Economics and Business Science of the University of Malaga (UMA), where about 160 baccalaureate students from schools in the provinces of Almeria, Cordoba, Granada and Huelva will participate. During this day, which lasts seven hours, participants will be grouped into teams of six to eight students, who will have to propose a solution to a challenge or activity posed, counting, for this, with the support of ten teachers. This initiative will result in a winning team and various awards that will be reflected in a prize-giving ceremony.

The aim of this activity is to bring financial education to young people in a practical, fun and entertaining way, in an atmosphere of cooperation and participation, aimed at stimulating financial knowledge and skills, practical learning, as well as the development of ideas, creativity and innovation, through the application of active methodologies and transversal competencies.

On the same day, the Edufinet Center for Financial Education in Salamanca will host a conference for 25 students in the 4th year of secondary education from the Montessori school in the province. Under the slogan of this edition of the Financial Education Day, this financial education talk will take place, where young people will learn basic notions and concepts about the world of finance. They will also take a guided tour of the Edufinet Center facilities, which includes, among other activities, an exhibition on basic concepts, economic and financial curiosities, a timeline on the historical evolution of money and an interactive financial games area equipped with tablets.

On Wednesday, 8 October, Edufinet kicks off its Financial Education for Sports Cycle with a lecture by Luis García Álvarez, an investment fund manager specialized in the sports industry, who will address the role of these financial products in the sports field, followed by a discussion. This two-hour conference will take place at the Faculty of Marketing and Management of the University of Malaga and will be simultaneously broadcast in streaming on Edufinet's YouTube channel. This cycle of conferences is developed through EdufiSport, Edufinet's thematic line that since 2020 has launched specific financial education actions oriented to the world of sports.

This initiative will run throughout the 2025-2026 academic year, until June, and will offer monthly conferences, in a format that favors audience participation, with questions and discussion time. The aim is to bring financial culture closer to the world of sport, from both a professional and academic perspective, with an educational and informative nature, to highlight the practical usefulness of training in economics for the career management of athletes and sports entities.

Edufinet will put the finishing touch to this celebration on Thursday, 9 October, with a commemorative event for its 20th anniversary. The Fundación Unicaja Cultural Center in Malaga will host this event, which will be attended by the head of the Edufinet Project, José M. Domínguez, as well as by representatives of the Fundación Unicaja and Unicaja, and will be attended by local authorities, institutions, trainers and collaborating entities of this financial education program.

Throughout the week, Edufinet will also reinforce its informative and educational work, around the Financial Education Day and the theme of this edition, both in its conferences and in the dissemination of audiovisual content through its social media profiles and podcast platforms, and from its blog (EdufiBlog).
