The Edufinet financial education project, promoted by Fundación Unicaja and Unicaja, celebrated its twentieth anniversary this Thursday, 9 October, with a commemorative event, which took place at the Cultural Center of Fundación Unicaja in Malaga. At the event, the work carried out by Edufinet over the last two decades, during which it has established itself as one of the pioneering and most active programs in the fields of education and financial inclusion, was reviewed and highlighted.

The event was attended by the general manager of Fundación Bancaria Unicaja, Sergio Corral; the CEO of Unicaja, Isidro Rubiales; the head of the Edufinet Project, José M. Domínguez; the mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, and other authorities. Also in attendance were representatives of organizations, collaborators, the entities promoting the financial education program, as well as its work team.

The general manager of Fundación Bancaria Unicaja, Sergio Corral, pointed out that "we are celebrating twenty years of commitment, constant work, cooperation and educational vocation at the service of society. Edufinet has not stopped growing over these years and has always done so with people at the center, reaching out to young people, the elderly, those living in rural areas or those in vulnerable situations. From Fundación Unicaja we are very proud to have accompanied this project since its origins, and we will continue to do so because we firmly believe that a better informed society is also a freer, fairer and more prepared society for the future".

For his part, the CEO of Unicaja, Isidro Rubiales, emphasized that "taking a retrospective view allows us to value and highlight the innovative and pioneering nature of Edufinet, of which we at Unicaja are very proud to be a part. This unique project reflects our firm commitment to the promotion of financial education, framed in our ESG strategy, and demonstrates that business efficiency can go hand in hand with the constant exercise of our corporate social responsibility".

Finally, the head of the Edufinet Project, José M. Domínguez, closed the event by emphasizing that "Edufinet is conceived as a project of social, corporate and individual responsibility, which keeps alive its commitment to financial education, with the same enthusiasm as 20 years ago, and the aspiration to contribute to the improvement of the economic and financial literacy of the population".

"To get this far, a considerable effort has had to be made by people and institutions. And, as we said then, that effort will be rewarded if someone finds in the framework of our project some kind of help to facilitate their incursion into the financial system, or a stimulus to enter the path of knowledge of a field so important for the daily life and welfare of citizens," he said.

With this commemoration, Edufinet puts the finishing touch to a week, marked by an intense program of activities, that this financial education project has developed, in collaboration with Funcas Educa, on the occasion of the celebration of the Financial Education Day, on 6 October. This initiative is promoted by the Financial Education Plan (PEF), promoted by the Bank of Spain, the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, and which also has a large number of collaborators.

20 years of financial education

In its 20 years of history, the Edufinet Project has been characterized as one of the pioneering and benchmark financial education programs in Spain, as a result of its firm commitment to society and in the exercise of its sustainability policy. The result of these two decades of work is its extensive network of collaboration in both the academic and business spheres, which includes a total of ten business organizations and 17 universities.

Since it was launched in 2005, it has carried out a wide variety of training activities, of an eminently practical nature, including the development of many seminars, workshops, courses and conferences, both in classroom and online format, aimed at citizens of all ages, which have benefited, so far, more than 300,000 people.

In its aim of bringing financial education closer to society as a whole, its website (www.edufinet.com) is presented as an open window to the world of economics and finance, offering its users practical and educational information on these and other related subjects, through different sections: Edufinext, Edufiemp, Edufitech, Edufiblog, Edufisport, Edufiagro and Edufiacademics).  These web portals have received more than 11 million visits, with access from some 180 countries and nearly 20 million page views.

In addition to the publication of several books, as well as posts on its blog, EdufiBlog, this financial education program also carries out intense training work on a daily basis through its social media profiles (YouTube, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok) and the podcast platforms iVoox and Spotify. These channels have registered, to date, more than 118,000 followers and subscribers, accumulating, during the first half of 2025, more than 8.1 million views and plays, which last year exceeded 9.5 million.

Edufinet's work has received throughout this time with several awards. Among them, the Finance for All 2024 Award, granted by the Financial Education Plan, in the category of best financial education initiative; three awards in the CECA Awards for Social Work and Financial Education 2023-2024, as well as recognition as a finalist in the Vuela 2024 Awards.
