Unicaja workers in Malaga showed their most supportive side last Friday, participating once again in a blood donation campaign organized by the Centro de Transfusión, Tejidos y Células de Málaga y la Asociación de Donantes de Sangre ‘La Gota Roja’.
The donation took place on 27 June, from 10.00 to 14.00 hours, in a mobile unit that the Regional Blood Transfusion Center (CTRS) installed in the Avenida de Andalucía in the capital, next to the headquarters of Unicaja.
Aware of the importance of donating blood and plasma and, as part of its social commitment, Unicaja encouraged its staff to participate in this initiative -voluntary, altruistic and responsible, which helps to save lives or improve the health of the recipients-, as it has already done on other occasions and in other parts of the country where it is present.
This action is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3: Health and Well-being, which promotes ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.
Ongoing demand
This initiative is part of the campaign promoted by the CRTS to ensure, throughout the summer period, an adequate supply of blood and plasma to health centers and hospitals, taking into account that the needs for blood components and derivatives from donations are continuous.
The Centro de Transfusión, Tejidos y Células de Málaga is responsible for supplying blood to all hospitals, both public and private, in the capital and its province. An average of 175 surgical interventions are programmed daily, which require numerous blood transfusions.
In the case of the province of Malaga, to meet this demand, 250 people need to donate blood every day.
On June 14, World Blood Donor Day was celebrated to raise awareness of the need to donate blood on a regular basis to guarantee the quality, safety and availability of blood.
