Fundación Unicaja and Unicaja support the work of Asilo de los Ángeles in Málaga. The support of both institutions will allow the city’s historic center to ensure the care of the 48 elderly people in a situation of great dependence that it currently hosts.

This morning a visit was made to the residence with the participation of the president of Fundación Unicaja, José M. Domínguez; the CEO of Unicaja, Isidro Rubiales; the general manager of the Fundación Unicaja, Sergio Corral, and the Councilor for Economy, Finance and European Funds of the Andalusian Regional Government, Carolina España.

The visit, which has been led by the president of Patronato Hogar Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, Luis Plaza, has also been attended by the general director of Credit Risk and ESG of Unicaja, Javier Pérez; the provincial delegate of Economy, Finance and European Funds of the Junta de Andalucía, Antonio Jesús García, and the provincial delegate of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality, Ruth Sarabia. The Patronato manages the center, which provides accommodation under an agreement with the Andalusian Government.

Thanks to the support of Fundación Unicaja, the historic center, which was in a delicate economic situation, will be able to continue its activity of caring for elderly people with a high degree of dependence and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's, among others. The Asilo offers residential and health care to almost fifty elderly people and has more than thirty employees.

During the visit, both the president of Fundación Unicaja, José M. Domínguez, and the CEO of Unicaja, Isidro Rubiales, emphasized that the collaboration between the two institutions has made it possible to offer stability (social and financial support) for the continuity over time of the essential activity carried out by the Asilo de Los Ángeles.

Helping those in need is one of the basic pillars of the work of Fundación Unicaja, which supports organizations and projects that contribute to alleviating situations of vulnerability. For its part, Unicaja, within the framework of its sustainability policy, shows its commitment to the elderly, to their attention and care, collaborating to improve the welfare of society in general and, in particular, of the territories in which it operates.

The Asilo de los Ángeles is located in the Bailen-Miraflores district, in a building that sits on a former Franciscan convent dating from the sixteenth century. Its welfare work dates back to 1893, when the Liga para el Socorro de Indigentes y Extinción de la Mendicidad en Málaga was founded, changing its name to the current one in 1913.

The Patronato Hogar Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles cares for residents with a high degree of dependency, trying to avoid loneliness and contribute to improve the quality of life, dignity and personal self-esteem of the elderly, also promoting close contact with their families. Since 2007, it has had an agreement with the Junta de Andalucía to care for 48 highly dependent people.
