Unicaja, in its commitment to the promotion of sport, especially in the areas where it operates, collaborates with Club Patín Pelayo in the celebration of the 19th International Rollerskating Trophy "Villa de Gijón". This event, which has the support of the Gijón City Council, includes the first stage of the 2024 European Cup and takes place this weekend from 22 to 24 March at the Manuel F. López skating rink (Moreda-Natahoyo Sports Complex).
This will be the fourth time that Spain will host one of the stages of the European Cup, made up of 9 competitions whose venues are spread throughout Europe.
This year's participation figures will reach 530 athletes from 13 countries.
This is a high-level competition, which will be attended by a large number of skaters of international level who have participated with their respective National Teams in European and World Championships.
The competition was presented this week at the Gijón City Hall by the Councillor for Sports and Education, Jorge Pañeda, the president of Club Patín Pelayo, Montse Guerra, and on behalf of Unicaja, the regional manager of Asturias East, Ana Fonseca.
The best European rollerskating
The European Rollerskating Cup is held in the speed and long-distance categories, with the participation of children, youth, junior and senior categories. The Villa de Gijón tournament also includes other younger categories and the master category.
During this weekend, several world champions such as Alfonso Silva, Alice Marletti or Johan Guzmán will arrive in Gijón. In addition to Asturian medalists such as Alba Antolin, Aitana Gonzalez, Laura Montes, Andrea Fernandez and Jorge Vega.
Gijón will host the first stage of the 2024 European Cup, followed by the Portuguese city of Lagos (5-7 April), and then Germany, Austria, Holland and Belgium. The last stage of the competition will be from 7 to 11 August in Santa Maria Nuova, Italy.
