The Edufinet Project, promoted by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja, will organize next week a new edition of its Financial Education Congress. The aim is to analyze the challenges to be faced by this discipline in order to achieve sustainable growth. The event will take place from 15 to 17 November and will be attended by nearly 40 experts.
The 6th Edufinet Congress, with the title 'Financial education in a context of transition towards sustainability' and sponsored by Funcas Educa, will be held one more year with a mixed form, as it will be take place at the Centro Cultural Fundación Unicaja de Málaga (Palacio Episcopal) and will also be broadcast online through the Edufinet Congress website, where registration can also be done free of charge.
The congress is aimed at academics, professionals and representatives of public and private institutions, although it is open to the general public. Specifically, through 16 sessions and five colloquiums, participants will analyze the challenges to be faced by financial education in the current context of transition towards sustainability.
The speakers include representatives from the Bank of Spain, the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), CECA, the Spanish Institute of Analysts, the Academy of Social Sciences and the Environment of Andalusia, Analistas Económicos de Andalucía, the Smart City Cluster of Malaga, Instituto Santalucía and the National Police, among others.
Spanish and foreign universities
There will also be speakers from universities such as those of Malaga (UMA), Cordoba (UCO), Huelva (UHU), Navarra (UNAV), Complutense de Madrid (UCM), Rey Juan Carlos (URJC), Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), Harvard, University College Dublin or the Instituto Universitario de Investigación Ortega y Gasset of Mexico.
The general interests of the congress include serving as a meeting point for the different agents involved or interested in financial education; analyzing its situation to identify trends and points of interest, especially bearing in mind that it is a key element for the sustainable development of society, as well as sharing knowledge and experiences. All this, with the ultimate goal of improving literacy in this area from a general perspective and, in particular, thinking about specific groups.
Topics
During the congress, current challenges and issues and their link to financial education will be addressed, such as cryptocurrencies and cybercrime; the digitalization of finance, moving from ATMs to Artificial Intelligence; financial culture, tax ethics and tax compliance; the impact of banking laws on the social and political evolution of Spain, or monetary policy and its struggle to contain inflation levels.
The 15 years of the first Financial Education Plan will also be analyzed and future challenges will be identified; the experimental trajectory of this subject will be evaluated, and the experts will try to establish the reasons that lead to continue making bad financial decisions despite having a higher level of financial knowledge.
Other issues to be addressed are the sustainability of pension systems; the points in common between the perspectives of supervisors and users of financial services in relation to ESG criteria, and the importance of financial education in family businesses and family protocols, as well as in the face of climate change.
Discussion will also cover the relationship between human rights and financial education, as well as with corporate codes of ethics, pawnbrokers, notaries and the training of junior athletes. The topics issued through Facebook by financial institutions will be analyzed too.
The Edufinet Project has been promoting financial education activities for nearly two decades, with the collaboration of 17 universities and more than a dozen business entities and organizations.
Since it was launched, almost 260,000 people have participated in the various seminars, workshops, courses and conferences it has organized. Its websites have so far registered more than 20 million accumulated visits, with access from almost 180 countries.
