Under the agreement reached, several financial education actions will be developed in Extremadura, such as a lecture aimed at senior citizens, which has been given to 15 Red Cross users. In addition to this type of seminars, which will also be addressed to other groups, such as business owners, entrepreneurs, students and young people, conferences, congresses, meetings and courses will be organized, through the exchange of experiences and knowledge, trainers and experts, teaching resources or teaching infrastructures.
The Edufinet Project aims to promote financial education among citizens, clearly following the recommendations set forth by the OECD, as well as by various international and national organizations. 17 universities and more than ten institutions, such as Fundación Caja Extremadura, collaborate with Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja in this project.
Fundación Caja Extremadura is committed to society, culture and the creation of social value and contributes to the welfare and improvement of the quality of life of Extremadura citizens and society as a whole, through the promotion and development of plans, initiatives, programs and activities of a social, cultural and entrepreneurial support nature.
Financial education for the senior citizens
The first of the initiatives carried out jointly by Edufinet and Fundación Caja Extremadura was a day of financial education for the senior citizens. Specifically, 15 users of the program ‘Contigo, más cerca’, developed by the foundation in collaboration with Extremadura Red Cross, have received training on economic and financial issues from a practical perspective.
During the workshop, under the title ‘Yo también soy digital’, the attendees received some notions on the types of bank accounts, cards, online banking and cybersecurity. In addition, a practical exercise was carried out with a digital banking simulator and an ATM.
This type of workshops provides a clear and practical vision of the world of economics and finance, and they are essential at any age for making informed and correct decisions.
Since it was launched, more than 180,000 people have participated directly in Edufinet conferences and meetings, and its website has accumulated more than 10 million visits, with queries and accesses from 180 countries.
Likewise, in recent years, the entity has also held financial education meetings and workshops in Extremadura with entrepreneurs and has disseminated several educational videos and press articles on current financial topics.
All this has made Unicaja one of the most active agents in the fields of financial education and inclusion, in the exercise of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its commitment to society.
