With the said award, the race, organized by Atresmedia Eventos, with the collaboration of Malaga City Council, enters the elite of marathons at a national level and joins the most important marathons in the world.
Unicaja Banco’s support to Zurich Maratón Málaga 2019 falls within the bank’s interest in sports as a practice that brings benefits for health and that contributes to the creation of healthy lifestyle habits through leisure.
Unicaja Banco reaffirms its support to Zurich Maratón Málaga with the official sponsorship of its tenth edition, to be held on Sunday 15 December in the city of Malaga, with important new features.
This urban race, organized by Atresmedia Eventos, with the collaboration of Malaga City Council and with the main sponsorship of the company Zurich Seguros, will have this year, for the first time, the Bronze Label given by the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations), an award which places this race in the elite of national marathons and which has been granted to the Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre.
With the said award, Zurich Maratón Málaga joins a prestigious list of world races, what will allow this marathon to continue growing. This is one more incentive for thousands of runners to enjoy one of the five races with the highest number of participants in Spain, and an event that stands out for its sustainability and its role in raising environmental awareness.
Also, with the goal of renewing the race’s visual concept, the sport competition will have a new corporate image, which enhances the beauty, nice weather and touristic attractions of Malaga, which make the city an ideal destination for running a winter marathon.
This year, the slogan chosen is ‘Because Malaga always gives you a second chance’ and it features Eliud Kibet, Kenyan runner who, in the last edition of Zurich Maratón Málaga, fell only 10 metres from the finishing line. Kibet reaching the finish crawling was the most recalled image of last year’s race, and Malaga will give him in the 2019 edition a chance for redemption.
Unicaja Banco’s support to this sport competition falls within the bank’s interest in sports as a practice that brings benefits for health and which contributes to the creation of healthy lifestyle habits through leisure.
The race presentation event, held today at Museo del Patrimonio Municipal de Málaga (MUPAM), was attended by Malaga Mayor, Francisco de la Torre; the representative of Unicaja Banco’s Institutional Relations, Juan de Mata Sanz; Malaga’s Sports Councilor, Noelia Losada, and by the Director of Atresmedia Eventos, Pablo López, among others.
The ‘Club de Amigos del Maratón’ has also been presented during the event. It is an association integrated by different groups and institutions, such as Malaga City Council, Confederación de Empresarios de Málaga (CEM), Autoridad Portuaria or the Andalusian Athletics Federation, with the goal of making Malaga and its people feel Zurich Maratón Málaga as a major event for the city.
The race starts and finishes at Paseo del Parque, with a route of 42 km and 195 metres, to be completed in a maximum time of six hours. There will also be a half marathon race, with the same start and route as the marathon until km 21 and 95 m, to be completed in less than three hours, and a ‘Breakfast Run’ on the day before.
Unicaja Banco’s commitment to sports
Unicaja Banco’s sponsorship of Zurich Maratón Málaga 2019 is part of its interest in the promotion of sports, as well as of the support that it gives to the productive fabric and to the sectors driving the local economic development and job creation, both in Andalusia in general and in the Malaga province in particular.
This sponsorship also falls within the support that the bank gives to other sport events, such as the Ultra Sierra Nevada mountain race, or the sponsorship of the Sierra Nevada ski and mountain resort in Granada.
