Unicaja Banco reaches a new agreement with the Diputación de Málaga to boost gender equality in sports, to spread flamenco, soul and chess and to encourage reading

Unicaja Banco collaborates one more year in the development of social, cultural and sporting activities organized by the Diputación de Málaga (Provincial Council of Malaga). In particular, the bank will support gender equality in sports (+ Deporte y +Mujer), the spread of flamenco art (Bienal de Arte Flamenco de Málaga), soul music (Costa del Soul) and chess (La Térmica Ajedrez), and will encourage reading (activities in the Cánovas del Castillo Library).

The support to these activities, to be developed during this year, has been reflected in the signature of a new agreement between the Chairman of Unicaja Banco, Manuel Azuaga, and the President of the Provincial Council of Malaga, Francisco Salado, which reinforces the existing relationship between both institutions.

 

The agreement and the subsequent collaboration with the Provincial Council of Malaga responds to Unicaja Banco’s interest in contributing, in the areas where it operates and in Malaga province in particular, to the promotion of culture, sports and gender equality.

 

Unicaja Banco collaborates one more year in the development of social, cultural and sporting activities organized by the Diputación de Málaga (Provincial Council of Malaga). In particular, the bank gives support to gender equality in sports, with the programme + Deporte y + Mujer; to the spread of flamenco, through the Bienal de Arte Flamenco de Málaga -consolidated as the major meeting of flamenco artists in the South of Spain-; soul, with the start of the Costa del Soul cycle; chess, with the programme La Térmica Ajedrez -organized by the Asociación Ajedrez Social de Andalucía, in collaboration with the Fundación Kasparov para Iberoaméria-, and to activities to encourage reading (activities in the Cánovas del Castillo Library).

 

The support to these activities is reflected in the signature of the corresponding agreement by the Chairman of Unicaja Banco, Manuel Azuaga, and by the President of the Provincial Council of Malaga, Francisco Salado, which reinforces the existing relationship between both institutions.

 

The agreement and the subsequent collaboration responds to the bank’s interest in contributing, in Malaga province, to the promotion of culture, sports and to the development of social initiatives boosting, among other aspects, gender equality.

 

Support to five programmes

 

With regard to the projects where Unicaja Banco collaborates, + Deporte y + Mujer seeks equality between men and women in sports, by promoting sport activities among women and recognizing and giving visibility to their achievements in this field.

 

The VI Bienal de Arte Flamenco de Málaga, consolidated as the major meeting of flamenco artists in the South of Spain, will take place from 3 to 14 September in several towns of the province, with concerts, flamenco theater and opera, saetas, fashion shows, routes, lectures, master classes, gastronomic days, exhibitions, activities for children and editions and presentations of books and records, among other activities.

 

Unicaja Banco will also contribute to the organization of the first edition of the project Costa del Soul, a soul music festival organized around 23 June (Saint John’s Eve), to be celebrated simultaneously in different towns along Malaga coast.

 

Other of the cycles where Unicaja Banco will contribute with its sponsorship is La Térmica Ajedrez, organized by the Asociación Ajedrez Social de Andalucía, with the collaboration of Fundación Kasparov para Iberoamérica and which includes, among other activities, simultaneous games, lectures and workshops.

 

Finally, Unicaja Banco’s support will enable to carry out, in the Cánovas del Castillo Library (Centro Cultural María Victoria Atencia, calle Ollerías), activities, lectures and workshops (storytelling, theater and puppets, drawing and comics, music, science, astronomy, chemistry, audiovisuals, etc.), aimed at encouraging reading among Malaga people, with special focus on children and teenagers, people with special needs and vulnerable groups.
