Unicaja Banco sponsors the IX Zurich Maratón Málaga, with the participation of more than 5,000 runners

Unicaja Banco collaborates this year for the first time as official sponsor of the ninth edition of Zurich Maratón Málaga, to be held on Sunday 9 December in the city of Malaga, with the participation of more than 5,000 runners.

This race, organized by Atresmedia Eventos, with the collaboration of Malaga City Council, will gather runners from all over the country and it incorporates this year, as a new feature, a half marathon. This event is one of the five races with the highest number of participants in Spain, and it stands out for its sustainability its role in raising environmental awareness.

 

Unicaja Banco’s support to this sport competition falls within the bank’s interest in sports as a practice that brings benefits for health and that contributes to the creation of healthy lifestyle habits through leisure.

This urban race, organized by Atresmedia Eventos, with the collaboration of Malaga City Hall and with the main sponsor of the company Zurich Seguros, will gather runners from all over the country and it incorporates this year, as a new feature, a half marathon race. Zurich Maratón Málaga is one of the five races with the highest number of participants in Spain, and it stands out for its sustainability and its role in raising environmental awareness.

           

Unicaja Banco’s support to this sport competition falls within the bank’s interest in sports as a practice that brings benefits for health and which contributes to the creation of healthy lifestyle habits through leisure.

           

The race presentation event, held today at Malaga City Hall, was attended by Malaga Mayor, Francisco de la Torre; the representative of Unicaja Banco’s Institutional Relations, Juan de Mata Sanz; Malaga’s Sports Councilor, Elisa Pérez, and by the Director of Atresmedia Eventos, Pablo López, among others.

 

Zurich Malaga Marathon starts and finishes at Paseo del Parque, with a route of more than 42 km, to be completed in a maximum time of six hours. There will be two races: the elite race, reserved to runners invited by the organization and to those who accredit that they have run a sub-2:25:00 in men and sub-2:55:00 in women; and the mass race, open to the rest of registered participants. In the latter, runners shall compete in six different categories according to their age. There are two additional mixed categories for people with disabilities (one for wheelchair athletes and one for people with physical-mental disabilities).

 

The top three men and op three women of the elite race, as well as the first three men and women classified in each category of the mass race will receive a trophy. This sport event will also award money prizes for around 20,000 euros in total, to be divided into the first five runners of the individual general classification.

 

This year, Zurich Maratón Málaga will include, for the first time, a half marathon race, with the same start and route as the marathon until km 21, and with finish line at Plaza del General Torrijos. This race must be completed in less than three hours, and there will be trophies for the first three classified.

Unicaja Banco’s sponsorship of IX Zurich Maratón Málaga is part of its interest in the promotion of sports, as well as of the support that it gives to the productive fabric and to the sectors driving the local economic development and job creation, both in Andalusia in general and in the Malaga province in particular.

 

Besides the sponsorship of this race, it should be mentioned that the bank collaborates with other sport events, such as the Ultra Sierra Nevada mountain race, or the recent sponsorship of the Sierra Nevada ski and mountain resort in Granada.
