Unicaja Banco sponsors the fifth edition of Ultra Sierra Nevada, 100 km mountain race to be organized in Granada next week

Unicaja Banco is one of the main sponsors of the fifth edition of Ultra Sierra Nevada, a mountain race of 100 km to be organized in Granada from 13 to 15 July, with an expected participation of over 1,100 runners of 35 nationalities.

Ultra Sierra Nevada runs by paths and trails from downtown Granada to Veleta Peak and Pradollano ski resort. The start line is at the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and Generalife and crowns the Veleta, with an altitude of over 3,100 metres.

 

Unicaja Banco’s sponsorship of Ultra Sierra Nevada race falls within its interest to strengthen its support to the productive fabric and to the sectors boosting the local development of the economy and employment, both in Andalusia in general and in the Granada province in particular, as well as to promote sport practice.

 

Unicaja Banco is one of the main sponsors of the fifth edition of Ultra Sierra Nevada, a mountain race of 100 km, organized in Granada from 13 to 15 July and which this year reaches its fifth edition, with an expected participation of over 1,100 runners of 35 nationalities.

 

Ultra Sierra Nevada runs by paths and trails from downtown Granada to Veleta Peak and Pradollano ski resort. The race will begin in the early morning of Saturday 14 July, with runners starting next to the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and Generalife, in particular, from Paseo del Salón, to continue along the riverbank of  Darro river until reaching the village of Beas de Granada.

 

From this point, runners will continue to ascend by paths and trails in natural areas, passing by the villages of Quéntar and Güejar-Sierra, until reaching the finish line, in Pradollano ski resort, at an altitude of 2,100 metres.

 

Unicaja Banco’s sponsorship of Ultra Sierra Nevada race falls within its interest to strengthen its support to the productive fabric and to the sectors boosting the local development of the economy and employment, both in Andalusia in general and in the Granada province in particular, as well as to promote sport practice.

 

The race is conceived as semi self-sufficient and has to be completed in less than 25 hours. It qualifies for the national circuit WAA Spain Ultra Cup, which this year is part of the calendar of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation and qualifies for the UTMB.

 

With regard to the route, the ascent to Sierra Nevada it is to be mentioned, with over 40 kilometres to climb 2,500 metres until reaching the Veleta Peak, to descend then to Pradollano ski resort by natural tracks.

 

Trail and Marathon

 

Ultra Sierra Nevada also has two more accessible versions for other runners, such as Trail Sierra Nevada (62 km, starting from Beas de Granada) and Marathon Sierra Nevada (40 km, starting from Quéntar). These races share a part of the route, checkpoints and aid stations.

 

The full programme of Ultra Sierra Nevada is completed with Urban Sapiens by Renault, a night race organized before the start of Ultra Sierra Nevada and which runs the most iconic spots in Granada. Its first 6 kilometres are the same as those of the long distance race.
