In this workshop, organized in two sessions, the attendees have received training on the main features of the financial and insurance system, the keys of the Edufinet Project and the importance of education on banking.

The Edufinet Project, promoted by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja, is one of the first financial education programmes launched in Spain. It currently collaborates with over twenty universities, institutions and business organizations, and its work has been recognized with several awards.

The Edufinet Project, promoted by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja, has organized again a course on finance and insurances for teachers of Vocational Training on Management and Finance, with the aim of providing this group with useful knowledge and skills related to the financial and insurance system, to be applied in their daily life and in their work.

This Course on Finance and Insurance for Teachers, which has been organized in two sessions, on 31 May and 7 June, has been held at the Unicaja Center for Financial Education in Malaga, and has been attended by 20 teachers of the province of Malaga.

The workshop has covered topics such as the importance of financial education, the Edufinet Project, assets and liabilities products, their characteristics and variables to consider when subscribing them, and the insurances available in the market.

The Edufinet Project has recently expanded its target audience and, in addition to students of Secondary Education, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training, its workshops are now aimed at adults in general, such as these workshops for teachers.

As in the rest of the Edufinet activities, the goal of this lecture is to promote an accessible financial education, for the participants to get a clear view of the financial world and insurances, focusing on the features of the different financial products, for them to be able to transfer this knowledge to their students. In short, it intends to raise awareness of the importance of achieving a certain level of financial literacy to face the challenges that they may face in the future.

During the school year 2017-2018, the Edufinet Project has organized the IX Conferences ‘Financial Education for Young People’, which have been attended by over 18,300 students from Andalusia, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Ceuta and Melilla. It has also organized the VIII Financial Olympics, a competition for high school students to show what they have learnt at the conferences.

This school year, the Edufinet project has completed its initiatives with the Conferences on Financial Education for Vocational Training Students, which have been attended by 600 students from Malaga and Cordoba, and with the Workshops on Financial Education for Adults, which are currently being implemented.

More than ten years of the Edufinet Project

The Edufinet Project was launched at the end of 2007, although its development began in 2005 within Unicaja, with the collaboration of the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (UNIA) and of the University of Malaga (UMA). This way, it became one of the first financial institutions to launch such an initiative in Spain, and this work has been recognized with several awards.

Since it was created, over 127,600 people have directly participated in the different workshops, seminars, courses and conferences organized. 89,000 of them have participated through the Conferences on Financial Education for Young People. The website www.edufinet.com, has registered more than seven million visits, with consultations and access from nearly 180 countries.

Additionally, two other specific portals were created: the first one, addressed to business owners and entrepreneurs (Edufiemp), and the second one, for young people (Edufinext). Publications on finance are other of the pillars of the Edufinet Project, such as the ‘Financial Guide’ and the ‘Financial Guide for Business Owners and Entrepreneurs’.
